YKK Colombia joins other YKK companies in an effort to protect the environment. By implementing good environmental practices, the company benefits society, as well as its local community, the environment and its staff. In its operations, YKK Colombia applies measures to classify solid waste, reduce its use of electricity and to properly use water.
“Our processes go even further by implementing the 3R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in order to encourage a reduction in the use of materials and a recovery, reuse and recycling of those materials to create a cycle of ecological efficiency,” says Diana Moncada, YKK Colombia’s Director of Integrated Quality Management.
Through a joint effort between YKK Colombia and other Colombian businesses, a sustainable environment can be achieved for the protection of resources and the security of future generations.
YKK Colombia is also interested in its local community becoming aware of the importance of recovering materials that can be reused in other protective processes.
The company also conducts information and awareness campaigns to educate its employees about how to properly separate and manage waste. By informing employees about the hazards associated with commonly used chemicals, these campaigns help to reduce labor incidents and risks involved with contaminants. The campaigns also talk about the 3R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. YKK Colombia also provides appropriate recycling containers in its offices and common areas so that they can encourage their employees to separate waste by type. In addition, the company recycles paper as much as possible.
Finally, YKK Colombia has established clean areas where their employees can deposit waste that does not have a conventional system of collection or that is dangerous. They avoid the use of disposable items, and they deliver hazardous waste to authorized waste management agencies.
