YKK Fundamental Behavior 20 – Pay attention to the details
Customers choose YKK because of our exemplary products. Such a reputation could not have become a reality if YKK’s founder, Tadao Yoshida, had not implemented the correct ethics for his vision, at the grassroots level, thus providing the proper environment and foundation that brought YYK Group to fruition. “No one prospers without rendering benefit to others.”
It’s important to study each of the 25 fundamental behaviors and recognize how they complement each other. However, for their efficacy to become intrinsic one must aim to comprehend their purpose in theory and through practice. Therefore, one should begin with the end-goal in mind: “Be Positive.”
You may ask, why begin with the last trait? What about the others? Well… I believe that all beginnings start from the end-goal and to truly “Pay Attention to the Details” is to focus on how to be positive.
So, what does it mean to be positive? For me, it’s to be poised with balance at every opportunity. This allows for high-awareness level throughout daily tasks.
The detail to being positive is perspective. For example, why choose pessimism when you can be optimistic instead?
The cup is half-full vs. the cup is half-empty.
1st: Recognize what is as it is.
2nd: Notice the gains: the cup plus the contents.
3rd: Do your best with what you have.
To practice “being positive” is the ideal way to promote natural growth through service, as in “Be an Ambassador.” As such, your actions become the example by which others learn from and the shared inspiration is a way to “Give Back.”
The quality of our work is entwined with our character, and a product is a self-portrait, so develop and care for the image you project in self, space, and product.
Like fingerprints, we are unique for our perception to details. Some are better with words while others prefer visual or hands-on instructions. This in no way makes either any better than the rest. Our diversity (in a major way) resides in our ability to detect and gravitate with details. That is a key factor that links all and every person as a society, in cohesion.
