YKK Fundamental Behavior 13 – Be a Team Player
I was chosen to write to you about our fundamental behavior “BE A TEAM PLAYER,” one of the most important and also one of the most applied behaviors in our work and personal lives.
Have you ever wondered: WHAT IS TEAMWORK?
By definition, teamwork is the union of 2 or more people who are organized to work cooperatively in pursuit of a common goal and objective. Teamwork has existed since the beginning of humankind. It is based on the realization that when people unite around a common goal, achieving that goal is easier. Teamwork is in all areas of our lives, and in the workplace it is especially important. The way in which the members of a company work towards a common goal is key to success.
WHAT IS TEAMWORK AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE COMPANY?
We all know that companies are made up of people and people make up teams. Let’s clarify beforehand that a work team is not a department. Business structures, although fundamental, are not directly related to the configuration of a team. A team is much more than that. A team is the union of forces for a common purpose and when we talk about companies, the team is an indisputable path to success.
In summary: To generate true teamwork the so called “5c’s” must be present, which I will mention later.
Over the years as an employee of YKK Honduras I have realized how important it is to work as a team because as a small group of employees each of us forms a very solid team, and in this way we can achieve our goals always thinking of the collective good. One day, while we were working in the warehouse area, my colleague Sergio Sabillon (warehouse manager) mentioned, “Teamwork divides responsibility and multiplies achievements.” This phrase was discussed at the time and we realized that if we did not do things together and delegate actions, we could not get anywhere.
IN SOME TALKS ABOUT TEAMWORK THE ‘5C’S’ HAVE BEEN MENTIONED:
– Confidence (Trust)
All of them are implemented in all types of work and in our personal life. It only requires that there are 2 or more individuals always willing to overcome challenges and enjoy the achievements. The main objective of teamwork is always to put more capabilities, intelligence, ideas and skills at the service of an activity, so that the results are satisfactory, fast and solid.
Our work team at YKK Honduras is characterized by being more than a group; it feels like a family where each member always contributes their great talent and dedication to their work. Although in recent years we have had colleagues who have retired, the new ones adapt very quickly due to the good working environment and I am very happy to be part of it.
I invite all colleagues who work for YKK to continue working as a team with the same dedication to always achieve the goals and to be able to emerge victorious from the problems that are always lurking.
