Stakeholder Engagement

YKK's efforts to render benefit to others

Why YKK Forms Partnerships

We know that we cannot solve apparel industry issues alone, which is why we work with a variety of non-profits and experts to learn best practices and improve our processes. We seek to deepen our understanding of global social issues and work to improve our business practices through dialogue with international NPOs, NGOs, and other stakeholders. We are committed to helping solve apparel industry issues that cannot be addressed by any one single company. To this end, we form partnerships in activities with a variety of industry groups.

YKK's Collaborations

In the spirit of co-existence and mutual harmony with our stakeholders, we collaborate with several global organizations to build a more sustainable future for us all. Through numerous global partnerships and memberships, we are charting the path towards a future based on sustainability and responsibility.

Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC)

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is a global multi-stakeholder coalition for organizations in the apparel industry. It is made up of more than 250 leading organizations spanning apparel, footwear, as well as textile brands, retailers, suppliers, service providers, trade associations, non-profits, NGOs, and academic institutions. Through the involvement of various stakeholders, SAC works to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry’s supply chain and contribute to the development of the people and communities involved in production activities.

YKK uses SAC Higg Index tools to confirm its compliance with industry-standard environmental commitments and social responsibilities and share that information with its business partners. View our Higg Index scores.

Textile Exchange

Textile Exchange is a global non-profit organization headquartered in Texas that aims to promote sustainability in the textile industry’s value chain. By spreading use and raising awareness of environmentally friendly textile materials, it works to minimize the environmental impact of the global textile industry, protect and restore the environment, and improve lives. The organization provides various data, market analysis, learning opportunities, tools, and standard certifications and builds a community that can take on challenges facing the entire industry that are difficult for individual member companies to solve alone. YKK supports the goals of Textile Exchange and aims to contribute to the industry by collecting the most up-to-date information and implementing various measures.

Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action

On March 3, 2020, YKK signed the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action promoted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat. The Charter supports the goals of the Paris Agreement and sets forth efforts for the entire fashion industry to collaborate on. YKK pledges to carry out its commitments under the Charter and cooperate with other companies in the industry and related stakeholders to develop, implement, and strengthen climate change countermeasures in the fashion industry. In addition, we are quantifying, tracking, and publicly reporting GHG emissions in accordance with the Charter.
