Fundamental Behavior 3 – Protect the Environment
During this winter vacation, I inadvertently had time to talk with my younger son about environment because his textbook was asking him what he can do in order to protect environment. Not a day goes by when we don’t hear news related to environmental issues.
When I was child, I remember that an industrial area was having issues with photochemical smog and sometimes an alarm was issued to stay home due to these issues. But I did not think about it deeply at that time. Years later, we are often facing abnormal weather.
Several years ago, the marine pollution caused by garbage and its effects on living organisms started to be addressed. I saw that several companies made quick action to try to solve the problem and the news expanded throughout the world by social media. I believe that it is important for each person to start thinking about it and making any action they can. We should also share what we are doing with each other. It will be good opportunity to have everyone think and act.
The automotive industry globally is also going through a dramatic change. Electric vehicle (EV) production in the NCA region will be about 1 million vehicles in 2024, which is still small. It will take time until EVs are the standard. But the 6th Mid-term (2021-2024) will be a good opportunity for YKK’s Transportation Fastening Materials (TFM) Group to think how we can support and contribute to society with valuable products and service for EVs with newly developed materials, structures and new service.
In the past, we have prioritized enriching our lives without taking care of the environment. Although we can’t change the past, I believe we can change the future with correct knowledge and action on what we have learned from the past.
I will continuously learn more and execute what I can from now on.
