Fundamental Behavior 24 – Be an ambassador
Fundamental Behavior 24 is “Be an Ambassador” of the company. What do you think of when you hear the word “goodwill ambassador”? You might think that you need to do something special or that it has little to do with you. I believe that the daily actions of each and every employee of the YKK Group convey enthusiasm to colleagues, customers, and society, and the accumulation of these actions shapes the image and reputation of the company. In other words, we all play the role of ambassadors of the company. We don’t do anything special.
What led you to work at the YKK Group is different for each of you, but I believe that the image and reputation of the company was a major factor in your decision to join the company. (Incidentally, I wanted to work abroad, so I applied to the YKK Group, which has businesses in many countries.) So, how does a company’s image and reputation form? I think it has a lot to do with the behavior of the employees who actually work there.
When I go to the mall, I try to stop by the clothing store and look at the zippers used in jeans and jackets. Many of the garments have YKK zippers on them. Also, as I drive, I often see YKK AP windows on new homes. When I see people pleased with their new clothes or happy families living in their new homes, I feel that YKK is accepted by society and I feel happy and proud at the same time. When I see the company I work for being accepted by society and bringing joy to many people, it makes me more motivated to do my job.
I am sure that each of you has your own opportunities to increase your motivation to work. This motivation is passed on to your colleagues, and then from within the company to your customers and to society, which in turn builds up and enhances the reputation of the YKK Group in society. If you discuss with your colleagues and family members when and why you are motivated to work, you may gain new insights.
