Fundamental Behavior 1 – Do the right thing always
In a difficult year where we have faced our best challenges, I have reflected on how fortunate I have been to have the opportunity to belong to the YKK Group team. I will share my message about my experience of belonging to such a prestigious and successful group that I appreciate and greatly respect.
Do the right thing always is a Behavior so important that I visualize it as being a reflection of what I was taught at home. Many times, I remember my Mother who, with her wisdom, told me how to behave correctly by making me follow instructions and to know that when being in another place that was not my home I should behave as well as possible.
Life is a constant roulette wheel in which decision making is an important point and it is worth noting that if each of us did the right thing, the world would be a better place.
When we are presented with situations or circumstances that make us wonder:
What decision to make?
Should I or should I not?
Will this be the right thing to do?
It reminds me of the following phrase that Martin Luther King Jr. said: “It is always the right time to do the right thing.”
If I go back in time to when I graduated from high school and I was given the opportunity to work at YKK Honduras, I remember that I was afraid because I was starting a new stage, given my little experience and youth and my only knowledge was what my teachers taught me.
Many times I wondered if I had made the right decision. Then, with the passing of the years working in the YKK group I was growing and gaining experience, learning new things every day and to do things correctly, which would mean that the group would be successful because of my constant support and that of each of my colleagues.
When I have been informed about a change of position, again doubt would come over me and I would ask myself the same question: Will I be able to do it or not? And at the same time I remembered that doing the right thing was the best decision and the confidence of the acquired experience supported me to perform in the best way each of the assigned functions.
It is appropriate to remember that when you have to make an important decision, it is necessary to turn to God as a spiritual guide and consult a family member or a trusted friend to confirm that you are doing the right thing because there will always be doubts.
As Roy T. Bennett said, “When you do the right thing, you get the feeling of peace and serenity. Do it again and again.”
If day by day we put this important value into practice and do things for the purpose of a good outcome, there remains the satisfaction that the right thing has been done.
And finally as Kirk Cameron said, “I am not perfect in my walk, but I want to do the right thing.” So in life you should give the best you have, doing the right thing without looking for popularity.
