The reduction of harmful chemicals and the sustainable use of water in production processes are core components of our Sustainability Vision 2050. To help realize the goals of our sustainable action plan for Snap and Button production in Europe and Asia, we developed our AcroPlating® technology, which completely eliminates the use of harmful substances such as cyanide, chromium, and selenium from the plating process.

While AcroPlating^®  is one of our better-known sustainable production methods, YKK offers a separate environmentally friendly finish specifically for customers in the United States and Mexico designed to give snaps and buttons a more vintage look. This eco-friendly line of finishes is an etch alternative to conventional electroplating that eliminates harsh acids and strong caustics. Additionally, this process reduces electricity usage through the elimination of plating baths and sandblasting, as well as water usage per production cycle and generated wastewater by 75% each.
